Voice AI has now been live for the first 90 days on the Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay website.
That sounds like a small sentence, but for hotel websites it matters.
Because this was not a lab test. It was not a landing page trick. It was real guests arriving on a real hotel website, already thinking about whether to book.
Here is what actually happened.
Watch the Kalim Guest Envoy demo on YouTube
The first 90 days
- 310 real guest conversations with people actively looking to book.
- Guests did not type. They talked.
- Guests spoke in their own language instead of struggling with English, including Arabic, Hindi, French and more.
- Kalim showed pool and room photos instantly, on demand.
- 22 guests gave up their email to book later with a direct discount.
That is the part I keep coming back to.
Guests did not need to hunt through room pages, open galleries, compare room names, or work out what mattered from static hotel content.
They asked. Kalim answered. And when the answer needed a visual, Kalim showed one.
Guests talked instead of typed
This is the shift.
A normal hotel chatbot waits for the guest to type something into a small box. That is still work. It still feels like a form. It still puts the burden on the guest to phrase the question properly.
With Kalim, guests could just speak.
They could ask about private pools, room views, the distance to Patong, the nearest beach, and what the sunset view actually looks like.
That is much closer to how a guest naturally thinks before booking a hotel.
They are not moving through a perfect sales funnel. They are trying to picture the stay.
Voice was only half the point
The other half was the visuals.
If a guest asks about a private pool, a text answer helps. But a pool photo helps more.
If a guest asks about ocean views, a sentence helps. But showing the actual room or view gives the guest confidence faster.
That is why I do not think the future of hotel AI is another text-only chatbot.
Travel is visual. Booking is emotional. Guests want to see what they are choosing.
Kalim handled the heavy lifting by turning guest questions into a guided conversation with hotel-specific answers and relevant images.
The discount question was the surprise
The most interesting part was not just that guests asked questions.
It was what happened when they pushed for bigger discounts.
Kalim did not panic. Kalim did not invent an offer. Kalim did not cave.
He calmly redirected guests to Club Wyndham, which was the right channel for deeper discounts.
That matters because hotels need control.
A hotel does not want AI promising the wrong thing, inventing rates, or creating awkward work for the reservations team. The value is in guiding the guest toward the correct next step while keeping the hotel in charge.
What this means for direct bookings
People do not want to scroll.
They do not want to hunt through pages.
They want answers now.
That is even more true when the guest is comparing an OTA listing against the hotel website. If the hotel website makes the guest work harder, the OTA often wins.
But if the hotel website can answer naturally, show the right visuals, support the guest in their own language, and capture useful follow-up details, the direct channel becomes more helpful.
That is the opportunity.
A note from the hotel side
Dominic Egger, Director of Operations at Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay, described Kalim as a stunning addition to the pre-stay guest experience and the guest decision-making process.
That is important because this is not only about technology. It is about giving guests useful help before they arrive, while also giving the hotel team better context and fewer repeated questions.
The question for hotels heading into 2026
Do you have a full-time staff member hovering over your website, ready to show guests what makes your hotel unique, in their language, the moment they ask?
Most hotels do not.
That is what Guest Envoy is starting to become.
Small start. Big signal.
This is what direct booking looks like when you remove friction.
A huge thank you to K. Dominic Egger, K. Emma Nattiya Sangkuttiya, the Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay team and Kalim.
